Airbnb payout timing: when your money actually lands
When Airbnb releases a payout, how long each payout method takes to land, and why a new listing or a Christmas check-in can wait longer.
The Hostomat team
A guest checks in on Wednesday. Airbnb releases your money by the end of the next business day. Your bank may not show it for another week. Those are two separate clocks, and over Christmas the second one runs slow.
Before the holiday bookings arrive, know which clock you are on and which payout method you picked.
Two clocks: release and delivery
Airbnb's Resource Center splits payout timing into two steps (How you'll get paid for hosting, by Airbnb, 13 October 2026, read 14 October 2026).
- Release. Airbnb sends the money out, typically within 1 business day after check-in.
- Delivery. Your payout method moves it to you. That time depends on the method, not on Airbnb.
Your earnings dashboard shows the payout timing for each reservation. Open one booking and scroll below the details for the line items: your nightly price, optional fees such as cleaning or pets, occupancy taxes, Airbnb's service fee, any co-host payout, and your total.
That total is already net of the fee. Since the switch to a single fee, most hosts pay 15.5% on the nightly price and optional fees, deducted before payout (How much does Airbnb charge hosts, 13 October 2026, read 14 October 2026). Hosts on property management software who had not switched moved on 13 October. If you left a $100 night unchanged, you now keep $84.50 (Simplifying Airbnb service fees, updated 13 October 2026). The full fee walk-through is in our 15.5% post.
How long each payout method takes
Once Airbnb releases a payout, the Resource Center lists these typical delivery times:
- Fast Pay: 30 minutes or less
- Payoneer prepaid debit Mastercard: 24 hours or less
- PayPal: 1 business day
- Western Union: 1 business day, can vary by country or region
- Bank transfer: 3 to 5 business days
- International wire: 3 to 7 business days
The Help Center adds ACH direct deposit at 3 business days for the USA and Puerto Rico, and one detail that matters in December: banks do not process on weekends or holidays, while Fast Pay and Payoneer do (Help article 425, read 14 October 2026).
Two catches. A new payout method shows as pending while Airbnb verifies it, which can take up to 10 days, except Fast Pay, which is verified instantly. And Airbnb says transaction fees may apply to certain methods, though many are free. Check what yours charges before you switch for speed.
An invented Christmas timeline
Invented example, not a real listing. A guest books five nights, check-in Wednesday 23 December, checkout Monday 28 December. Nightly price $220, cleaning $90, so $1,190 before taxes. At 15.5%, the fee is $184.45 and you keep $1,005.55.
Assume your bank closes on 25 December and 1 January, and treats 24 December as a business day.
- Release: by the end of Thursday 24 December.
- Fast Pay: about 30 minutes later, on the 24th.
- Payoneer: within 24 hours, so by Christmas Day, since it runs on holidays.
- PayPal: 1 business day, so Monday 28 December.
- Bank transfer: 3 to 5 business days, so somewhere between Wednesday 30 December and Monday 4 January.
Same stay, same $1,005.55. The money lands anywhere from Christmas Eve to the first Monday of January, depending on one setting.
New listings and long stays wait longer
The release clock itself moves later in some cases. Airbnb holds release until 1 business day after checkout when a new host has not verified a listing, when a host breaches its terms, or when Airbnb believes it is necessary to protect members or third parties.
The Help Center is more specific on the new-host case: hosts without two completed stays, unless they have verified the listing, get paid after checkout. Verifying the listing's location gets you paid sooner (Help article 3389, read 14 October 2026).
Run the invented stay again as a new, unverified listing. Release moves to Tuesday 29 December. A bank transfer then lands between Monday 4 and Wednesday 6 January. That is a cleaner, a restock and a January mortgage paid before the Christmas money arrives.
Stays of 28 nights or longer pay in monthly installments, starting within 1 business day after check-in. For a new host who has not verified the listing, the first installment comes 28 days after check-in (Help article 285, read 14 October 2026). The pricing side of long stays is in our 28-night post.
Any transaction can also be reviewed before release, which Airbnb says can delay funds up to 45 days after check-in (Help 425). Rare, but real.
What to set up before Thanksgiving
- Open Payments, then Payouts, tonight. Check which method is default. It applies to all future payouts until you change it.
- Add a second method now if you want one. Up to 10 days pending is fine in October and painful on 20 December.
- Verify the listing if it is new and has fewer than two completed stays.
- Write your December bills against bank dates, not release dates.
- Fix your prices to what you keep. If you never adjusted for the 15.5% fee, every holiday night pays less than you think.
What Hostomat does with any of this
Nothing to the money. Hostomat never touches payouts, payout methods or Airbnb Payments. It only writes nightly prices.
What it does is show those nightly prices as what you keep after Airbnb's fee, not what the guest sees. It prices every night up to 365 days ahead against the listings actually competing with you, every day, never below the floor you set. More on how the pricing works. The listing audit is free and needs no card.

It works with Airbnb only, connected directly or through Hospitable. It is a young product.
Where this can go wrong
Assuming release day is bank day. Switching payout methods in mid-December and sitting in pending. Paying a method fee you never checked for speed you did not need. Forgetting that a new unverified listing waits for checkout. Pricing December on what the guest pays instead of what you keep.
Check the two clocks once, then plan December around the later one. Pricing on Hostomat is 14 days free with no card. Start at hostomat.io/guide.
